Rippey School memorial bricks update: The next and last order for 2016 for Rippey School memorial bricks will be Thursday Sept. 1. Ten bricks is the minimum number that can be ordered and right now eight bricks are in the line waiting to be processed.
Several people have ordered a brick as a memorial for someone special in their life, or to show respect and gratitude for that deserving person. For some it was a relative, or a teacher, or a good friend.
The cost is $50 per brick, and the checks may be sent to the Friends of Rippey, Box 52, Rippey, IA, 50235. The forms are available at the church or the library, or may be down loaded from the Facebook page, “Remembering the Rippey School”.
Remember this is the last order for 2016, as Mark Devilbiss will be installing them this fall.

To celebrate the start of school, the library will show a “Movie in the Grass” on the library lawn Friday, Aug. 26, at 8:45 pm. Staff and the library board will show “The Angry Birds Movie” and serve popcorn at no charge. Bring blankets, chairs, bug spray and family friendly drinks and enjoy a fun night with the kids. (All children must be supervised.) Book club will start Sept. 1. The first book will be Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. Please message the library on Facebook, send an email or call and let staff know you would like to be part of RPL Book Club to assure there are enough books for everyone.

Rally Day, Aug. 28 – The Rippey Methodist Church is celebrating rally Sunday, Aug. 28. We are focusing on “pumping up” the whole church, this being a little different as we usually focus on the children’s Sunday school. It will be a church service that will involve the congregation and provide up-lifting music! We are looking forward to a year of spiritual growth in our church!

Local friends have been notified of the death of Robert Wilson, Rippey High School class of 1944.
Retired SFC Robert “Bob” Eugene Wilson passed away Aug. 20, 2016 in Weatherford, TX, after a lengthy illness.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents John James and Clara Evelyn Morris Wilson; brothers George Edward and Errol Arthur Wilson; Sister Bonnie Eilene Wilson Herrig; and daughters Sandy Lea and Roberta Eilene Wilson.
Robert is survived by his daughter Betty Mae (Charles E) Martin of Millsap, TX; son John Charles (Tonya “Toni”) Wilson of Orange, TX; grandchildren Nora Renae Martin Hazelhurst of Millsap, Tammy Dawn Martin (Gene) Payne of Millsap, Bret Ryan Wilson of Aledo, TX, Darren Dean (Barbara) Wilson of Missouri, and Kara Michelle Wilson (Simon Carr) Sosko of Elgin, TX; great-grandchildren Charles James “CJ” Hazelhurst of Weatherford, Robert Joseph “Joey” Hazelhurst of Millsap,Sydney Estell Payne of Millsap, Tyler Wilson Sosko and Jake Austin Sosko of Elgin, and Cameron Wilson and Harper Reese Wilson of Missouri; and great-great-grandson Robert Joseph “RJ” of Mineral Wells, TX.
Family reunions:
Nancy and Dale Hanaman hosted the annual Hanaman-Bardole-Huber reunion on Saturday, Aug. 13. Iowa sweet corn was part of the menu. Those attending included Jeff Huber and Dan Huff of Philadelphia, PA; Dr. John Bardole, Lindsey Bardole of Des Moines, Jordan Bardole and Tatum of Round Rock, TX, Scott Bardole and Maddie of Granger, Shelley and Randy Prati of Urbandale, Sarah and Benji Pearson, Steven, Elizabeth and Andrea of Superior, WI, Matthew Hanaman, Adrianna and Adyara of Rice Lake, WI, Shannon Bardole of Ames, Dick and Jo Bardole, Mary and Kevin Hick, Rachel Sacco of Rippey, and John and Barb McBlain, Lauren and Scott of Chicago, IL.
The following day Dale and Nancy, Matthew and girls, Sarah and Elizabeth and Andrea accompanied Jeff Huber and Dan Huff to the Iowa State Fair. It was Dan’s firsts visit to Iowa and the State Fair. They all enjoyed the various tasty treats including the giant dill pickles, lamb burgers, mini doughnuts and pork chops on a stick.
Sarah and Elizabeth and Andrea spent another week with Dale and Nancy and helped with tree trimming projects, weeding and enjoyed a trip to the Science Museum of Iowa. They also enjoyed trips for ice cream and swimming before returning home on Sunday.
Jean Borgeson joined other relatives for a family reunion at the home of her niece Dave, Dena and Anna Losen in Urbandale. The gathering was in honor of the visit of her nephew Phillipp Darling, of Austria and her brother and his daughter, Floyd and Sarah Hope Darling of Montgomery, TX.
Other family members and friends attending the festivities were Tyler Losen and his friend Hayley Eicheid of Urbandale, Dean and Elayne Bice of Johnston, Chris, Beth, and Maggie Bice of Ankeny, Judy (Darling) Wilson of Paton, Mike, Lara, Maya, Aria and Will Lissick of Inver Heights, MN, Michael, Jill and Seth Borgeson, Alan, Sarah, Kane and Kale Borgeson, all of Rippey, and Robert Borgeson of Jamaica and Mel Scearce of Minburn.
The group was able to skype with Phillipp’s parents and brother, Wayne, Heide, and Benny Darling of Austria. The last time some of the relatives had seen each other was at the funeral of the Darling sibling’s mother Hope Darling in 2003. There have been several family members born since then, so they met for the first time.
Phillip left Monday to continue traveling with some friends, touring the southwest United States before returning home to continue his studies to become a medical doctor. Floyd and Sarah headed home on Wednesday. It was a fun-filled few hours with three generations enjoying each other’s company.
